Everyone Regrets Buying These 8 Midsize SUVs

For the most part, midsize SUVs are the perfect compromise between large and small cars. As compared to other models available in the US market, it offers the ideal combination of size, capability, practicality, and pricing. Many car companies’ best-selling vehicles are medium SUVs, so clearly that’s a sentiment shared by the general population.

Being completely smitten with the midsize SUV market might backfire sometimes, though. A few of these cars are really lacking in quality. After the novelty of a brand-new midsize SUV wears off, you’ll quickly come to the conclusion that it was a poor financial decision. This isn’t necessarily the case, but knowing what you’re getting into is important when purchasing a midsize SUV.

The Journey Of Dodge

A rather untimely demise has befallen the Dodge Journey. Very little had changed in this midsize SUV in the past five years. Since this Dodge first went into production in 2008, there has been no significant revision. The Journey was hardly an exceptional choice even back then, and it is even less impressive now. The third row is barely useful, and reliability has never been Dodge’s strong suit. It has three rows, though. This SUV has very little going for it other than its cheap price, so don’t let that deceive you.

Chevrolet Envision

No midsize SUV can claim to be more unremarkable than the Buick Envision. This is perhaps because Buick has lost interest in the American market because its brand identity is unclear. Now, the vehicles that we acquire from Buick are derived from their phenomenally popular sales in China. As a result of all of this, the Envision does not actually cater to any certain demographic. There are other premium vehicles out there that feel more luxurious than this Buick, but you’re paying a premium for it.

The Ford Edge

Put another way, the Ford Edge is quite old. Its rivals have plowed ahead while it has remained mostly unaltered since 2015. Even though the Edge has some intriguing features, including its powerful ST variant, there isn’t enough to have people enthused about this midsize SUV. In an effort to update the cabin, Ford installed a huge central screen similar to Tesla’s in recent years, but it seems out of place in the otherwise antiquated design.

Toyota 4Runner

Given the widespread adoration for the Toyota 4Runner, this inclusion might seem unexpected. You might come to regret purchasing a 4Runner if midsize SUV safety is your top concern. Reason being, it gets a “marginal” rating in the minor overlap test conducted by the IIHS. Compromise in any area of safety is never pleasant, and it might put off some potential 4Runner customers.

Subaru Ascent

It would be foolish to choose the Subaru Ascent as your midsize SUV because it was so late to the game. A recent redesign did little to improve the design’s aesthetics and instead made it more divisive and out of date than before. Because the technology is just average for this market, the only thing that really sets this family hauler apart is its size. The feature-packed Kia Telluride would likely be a better fit for many customers at a comparable price point.

Passat From Volkswagen

Although new Touaregs are no longer available in the US, you should still avoid buying a secondhand one. While the Touareg’s reasonable pricing belies its high level of design and luxury, the vehicle’s terrible reliability is a major drawback. You might end up spending more than you’d want on repairs for this Volkswagen because of how poor it has always been in this area.

Duragon From Dodge

For as long as possible, Dodge has attempted to prolong the Durango’s life support system. With a few updates and the continued availability of V8s in select models, they have achieved some success in this area. The Durango’s long and rounded profile means it hasn’t entirely embraced the fashions of contemporary midsize SUVs. Many consumers have begun to favor SUVs with a more upright and squared-off appearance, although Durango has remained unchanged in this regard. Its style, coupled with its higher price tag and inferior trimmings, is uninteresting. In all cases, the Durango isn’t the best option.

With a new identity as an exciting off-road SUV, Honda breathed new life into the Passport. But the problem is that it is basically a two-row Honda Pilot, so it doesn’t have much off-road capability. When comparing this SUV to others, such as the Ford Bronco, this could put off potential purchasers. While the Passport’s V6 engine is one of its redeeming features, this midsize SUV falls short in practice when compared to its advertised attributes.
